Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy today alleged that the TRS government was not serious in offering an increased quota to backward classes in the coming Panchayat Raj elections.

Congress has been demanding reservation for backward classes in proportion to their population, Reddy said.

"As the TPCC President, I demand that BCs should be given reservation in proportionate to their population," he said.

Reddy flayed Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for allegedly linking a case filed in the court to the Congress.

The Telangana government had yesterday decided to go on appeal in the Supreme Court against the interim orders of Hyderabad High Court on the ceiling for reservations in the coming Panchayat Raj elections in the state.

The court had issued an interim order directing the government to ensure that reservation to OBCs and others in the coming local body polls is as per the overall 50 per cent quota fixed by the apex court.
