TRS won in Telangana due to triangular contest: Dattatreya

TRS' victory in Telangana was due to the triangular contest in the newly-carved state, senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya today said.

He said though TRS gained in terms of seats in the contest with BJP-TDP and Congress, BJP's vote share shot up in Telangana, where elections to assembly and Lok Sabha were conducted simultaneously.

Talking to reporters, Dattatreya, who was elected from Secunderabad constituency, said BJP has secured over two lakh votes in few constituencies and crossed the one lakh mark in several other seats.

"Take the case of Karim Nagar for example. Our party polled over two lakh votes. In other constituencies we got more than one lakh votes," he said.
 

BJP, which tied up with TDP in Telangana, and won from Secunderabad.

TRS put up an impressive show by winning 11 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. In the assembly polls, TRS bagged 63 of the total 119 seats.

Dattatreya also highlighted that Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi's campaign had huge impact in Andhra Pradesh.

Asked about his induction into the Union cabinet, he refused to comment.

A four-time MP and a former Union Minister of State, he held Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation and Railways ministries in the Vajpayee government.
