A truck loaded with 400 bags of milk powder worth lakhs of rupees was looted by armed assailants on the Delhi-Yamunotri highway in neighbouring Shamli district, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday near Lilaon village when four bike-borne assailants intercepted the truck, going to Delhi, and assaulted its driver before fleeing with the truck and the goods in it, they said.

An FIR has been lodged in this connection and a hunt is on for the accused, police said.

In another incident, a taxi driver was found dead today with his throat slit in Tiger Wada village in Shamli district.

According to SHO Umesh Rotiya, the 35-year-old driver had gone on duty on Tuesday and did not return home. His body was found in the jungle following which a case was registered against unidentified persons.
