A 23-year-old youth was mowed down by a truck in Moti Bagh area of south Delhi today, after which a mob burnt the vehicle, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Vipin, who worked as a sales manager at a private firm and lived with his family in Paschim Vihar area of west Delhi.

"The incident happened when Vipin was heading towards Moti Bagh via Dhaula Kuan on his two-wheeler when a truck rammed his bike from behind, throwing him on the road. The impact was so hard that Vipin died on the spot," said a police official.

The truck driver fled the spot, leaving the vehicle behind. Passersby informed the police which moved his body to a hospital's mortuary for postmortem.

Meanwhile, a mob gathered at the spot and torched the truck following which the fire department was called by the police. By the time two fire tenders reached the spot and doused the flames, the truck was gutted.

Police have registered separate cases against the truck driver and against some unidentified persons for setting the vehicle on fire.

Police said they have identified the absconding truck driver and a manhunt has been initiated to nab him.
