Rapper Wyclef Jean says Democratic Party must not take Donald Trump lightly as there is a good chance for him to return for a second term as president.

"Trump can be re-elected if the Democrats don't get it together. If the Democrats get it together, there is a possibility that they could take the election," Jean told Variety.

Asked whom he will support for 2020, the singer-actor said he is yet to make up his mind.

"It's too early to tell. I like the young people. I think the young people push. I think some people in the Democratic Party are scared of them."

Jean then pointed out there were certain issues that needed to be paid attention to by both Democrats and Republicans.

"... If I was probably giving advice, I would really say to both parties, health care is very important. And then you really have to look... I was a college student. We have to figure this thing out because you go to school and then you end up spending half of your life paying for the school. Something has to be wrong," he said.

"Of course, the economy is very important. Remember, quote me on this, if the strategy is to take Trump head on with a verbal match of you say one thing, I'm going to say one thing, you have lost the match already because he's the kid in the cafeteria you got one (insult), he got one, and he's constantly go back with you," he added.

In 2010, Jean filed for candidacy in the Haitian presidential election that year, but the Electoral Commission ruled him ineligible to stand for office, as he had not met the constitutional requirement to have been a resident in Haiti for five years prior to the poll.
