Donald Trump today met an Indian-American founder and CEO of a health policy consulting company, amid reports that the US president-elect was making an effort to replace Obamacare, one of his election promises.
"Meetings for today include Dr Seema Verma, the founder and CEO of SVC," Sean Spicer, chief strategist of the Republican National Committee told reporters.
No further details were immediately available.
According to her company's website, Verma is the architect of Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), which has been billed as the country's first consumer-directed Medicaid programme.
Based in Indianapolis, Verma has supported Indiana through the development of the historic programme since its inception in 2007, from development of the enabling legislation, negotiating the financing plan with the state's hospital association, developing the federal waiver, supporting federal negotiations, and leading the implementation of the programme, including the operational design.
The meeting is seen as part of Trump's effort to repeal and replace Obamacare, one of his election promise.
Verma has also developed many of the recent Medicaid reform programmes including waivers for Iowa, Ohio, Kentucky and helped design Tennessee's coverage expansion proposal and also provided technical assistance to Michigan as they implemented their 1115 Medicaid waiver.
She and SVC also supported Iowa's Medicaid transition to managed care, as well as supporting efforts Medicaid strategy efforts in Maine.
In 2016, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, who is now the US vice president-elect awarded Verma the Sagamore of the Wabash.
She was recently selected to participate in the American Enterprise Institute Leadership Network.
Prior to consulting, Verma served as vice-president of Planning for the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County and as a Director with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) in Washington DC.
Verma received her Masters in Public Health, with concentration in policy and management from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and her Bachelors in Life Sciences, from the University of Maryland, College Park.
