Ahead of US President Donald Trump's maiden foreign visit, the White House said today that he is making policies to reassert American leadership and strengthen allies while weakening adversaries.
"While on the trip, the President will further our strategic objectives in the region, creating new opportunities that will strengthen the United States and our allies, while weakening our enemies," White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters at his daily news conference.
Trump is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia, Israel, Belgium, Italy and Vatican on his maiden foreign trip as the 45th President of the United States.
Trump today met his National Security Adviser Lt Gen H R McMaster in preparation of his visit.
"This week, the President has been focused on meeting with the team, getting ready for the various stops that he'll be making and meetings that he's going to be having," Spicer said.
During his many conversations with world leaders, Trump has seen a great desire for America to reengage and be a leader once again in helping solve the world's complex problems, he said.
"He has already made moves, both behind the scenes with leaders and his public statements, to show them that America is reasserting its leadership on the world stage. These visits are another important part of this American resurgence," Spicer said.
