Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has said badminton player Laa Talar was the state's pride and assured him help.

Tuki, during an interaction with the ace shuttler here yesterday advised him to attend all national events and target 2016 summer Olympics at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, official sources said here today.

"You have already made us proud and we want you to achieve newer heights and bag Olympic medals ... If Manipuri boxer Mary Kom, the first from Northeast India, could win an Olympic bronze medal why not you," Tuki told the shuttler.

Talar, who was accompanied by his family members, thanked Tuki for the support given to him and assured to do his best to bring more laurels to the state.

Talar, who represented the country in the recently concluded World Junior Badminton Championship in Malayasia, qualified for the quarterfinals but was defeated by Lin Gui Pu of China (World ranking No 6) in a match played immediately after the Arunachal boy defeated Cheuk Yiu Lee of Hong Kong on April 15.

He had defeated David Peng of Germany and Cheezwa Nakanda Zambia, in the individual men's single matches the previous day.

Talar is ranked ninth among the Indian junior badminton players.
