Troubled pop star Tulisa Contostavlos has delayed the release of her debut novel to allow her more time to work on the book.

The 25-year-old former N-Dubz singer announced plans to add author to her resume in July after signing a deal with publishing house Headline and the tome, titled Sky, had been expected to hit store shelves later this month, reported Digital Spy.

However, the novel, about a London schoolgirl who escapes poverty to become a star, has since been postponed.

"When Tulisa signed a book deal with Headline there were provisional plans made to release a debut novel in autumn 2013," her representative said.

"However, a decision was made earlier this year to continue work on the novel, with the view to releasing the book at a later date. An announcement regarding the release date and title of the novel will be made in due course."

The news emerges as Contostavlos has become embroiled in a new scandal after sharing a photo online showing what appears to be nitrous oxide canisters at her house party. The 'laughing gas' is legal in the UK, but its use in social situations has been condemned by anti-drugs campaigners.

The singer is currently free on bail following her June arrest after she was allegedly caught on camera setting up a cocaine deal worth 800 pounds for an undercover reporter.
