A Turkish court has convicted three men of the murder of a 20-year-old student and sentenced them to life in prison, ending a case that sparked widespread protests denouncing violence against women.
Ozgecan Aslan's body was found burned and mutilated in a river bed in February, two days after she was last seen on a minibus.
The court in the southern city of Tarsus today convicted the driver, Suphi Altindoken, his father and a friend of killing Aslan. Additionally, Altindoken was convicted of attempted rape.
The brutal killing led to an outpouring of anger, mass demonstrations and allegations that the government was not doing enough to protect women.
