Turkey currency seized, eight arrested in Kakinada

A gang of eight persons was today arrested for allegedly trying to dispose of Lirasi notes which were 'demonitised' or withdrawn from circulation by Turkey, police said.

The accused were arrested in a raid conducted at an apartment on Bhanugadi junction and Turkish currency was seized from their possession, Chaitanya Krishna, Kakinada Two Town police circle's inspector said.

Police seized 99 currency notes, with face value worth several crores of rupees, he said.

The gang was planning to offer the currency at discounted rates to gullible buyers, he added.
