A Turkmenistani woman has been arrested by Customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold worth nearly Rs 27 lakh at the Delhi airport.
The accused was intercepted on arrival from Turkmenistan last Friday, an official statement issued today said.
"Her personal and baggage search resulted in the recovery of three chains of gold, collectively weighing 1 kg (market value Rs 27.09 lakh)," the Customs department said in the release.
The gold was found to be concealed underneath a blue tape pasted on the locking handle of the trolley, which the passenger was using to carry her baggage, it said, adding that the woman was arrested and the gold seized.
