Turmeric prices rose 0.91 per cent to Rs 9,968 per quintal in futures market today after participants built up positions, supported by pick-up in demand at the spot market.

Moreover, reports of damage to turmeric crop due to dry weather in Maharashtra and Karnataka too supported the upside.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in April next year was up by Rs 90, or 0.91 per cent to Rs 9,968 per quintal with an open interest of 23,260 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in May 2016 contracts moved up by Rs 78, or 0.77 per cent to Rs 10,110 per quintal in 2,765 lots.

Market analysts said fresh positions built up by speculators following rising demand at the spot market amid tight supplies from producing belts mainly led to the rise in turmeric prices at futures trade.
