Turmeric futures surge 1.26% on uptick in demand

Turmeric prices were trading up by 1.26 per cent to Rs 5,590 per quintal in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions, triggered by uptick in domestic as well export demand in the spot market.

Besides, restricted supplies from producing regions also added support to turmeric prices uptrend.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in July contract was trading higher by Rs 70, or 1.26 per cent, to Rs 5,590 per quintal, with an open interest of 15,395 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in current month increased by Rs 44, or 0.80 per cent, to Rs 5,514 per quintal in 3,410 lots.
 

Analysts said, fresh positions created by traders following upsurge in domestic as well as export demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions mainly pushed up turmeric prices at futures trade.
