Turmeric prices were up by 2.18 per cent to Rs 7,232 per quintal in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions, driven by uptick in domestic as well export demand in the spot market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in December month shot up by Rs 154, or 2.18 per cent to Rs 7,232 per quintal with an open interest of 7,720 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in far-month January 2017 traded higher by Rs 62, or 0.91 per cent to Rs 6,912 per quintal in 6,300 lots.
Analysts said fresh positions created by traders following upsurge in domestic as well as export demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions mainly pushed up turmeric prices at futures trade.
