A lone wild tusker, roaming in

the Soolagiri area of the district for the past few days, killed a 45-year-old man, its second victim in two days.

R Venkata Reddy, hailing from Ongole in Andhra Pradesh and employed with a blue metal crushing unit at Pannappati village near Soolagiri, 43 km from here, was attacked by the elephant last night, officials said.

On hearing his cries for help, villagers rushed him to the Hosur Government hospital where he was declared brought dead, Divisional Forest Officer Ulaganathan said.

He said this was the second incident involving the elephant. A woman was killed by the elephant on Friday night.

The forest department had initiated steps to send the stranded tusker into dense forest, he said.

He cautioned the villagers in the region to avoid movement on roads in the area during late nights till the elephant was chased back into the forest.
