A man was trampled to death by a tusker, while the carcass of a three-month-old elephant calf was recovered by forest officials in Odisha's Dhenkanal district today, officials said.

The victim identified as Babu Nayak (67) of Joranda Nuasahai under Gandia police limits was sleeping outside his house when a tusker trampled him to death, Divisional Forest Officer of Dhenkanal forest division P K Sahu said.

In another incident, an elephant calf was killed possibly while passing through the Thakurpal village under Kaluria grama panchayat under Gandia block of the district in the early hours today, Sahu said.

While crossing the nullah, a tusker might have pushed the three-month-old male calf into the nullha resulting in its death, he said.
