Tusker kills man, elephant electrocuted

In separate incidents, a tusker trampled one person to death while a wild elephant was electrocuted at Namonigaon in Sonitpur district, forest officials said today.

An elephant, a member of a wild herd, touched a high tension wire while on way to a paddy field and died on the spot at Namonigaon under Rangapara police station last night, West Sonitpur Divisional Forest Officer Narayan Mahanta said.

The full-grown male elephant was about 25-years-old.

In another incident in the same area, a 65-year-old farmer was trampled to death by an elephant which had come down to destroy his paddy field.

The deceased has been identified Dhaniram Das, Mahanta said.
