Two relatives of a television actress have been booked for allegedly harassing and threatening her to quit the entertainment industry, police said.

Faridabad police lodged a case against the paternal uncle of actress Nikunj Malik, identified as Mahavir Malik, and his son Amit, on Saturday following a complaint by her mother.

The complaint states that the duo threatened Nikunj with dire consequences if she did not quit the entertainment industry, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sukhbir Singh, said today.

The duo has been booked under sections pertaining to voluntarily causing hurt, trespass, assault or wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation.

"Although Nikunj's mother alleged that the two accused had been threatening her since March, they came forward with the complaint just a few days back, following which a case was registered," Singh said.

According to the complaint, the accused and other relatives were against Nikunj for having taken up a career in the entertainment business with the father-son duo having threatened her with dire consequences if she failed to quit.

Nikunj's career took off in 2010 following an appearance in TV show 'Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayenge'. The 28-year-old actress currently stars in the Anil Kapoor show '24'.

"No arrests have been made so far in the case; we are looking into the matter," said Inspector Manoj Kumar of Sector 7 police in Faridabad, where the complaint is registered.
