This decision was taken at a meeting of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi along with senior members of his cabinet and other senior state government officials here.
"The main aim of the channel would be to bring a progressive turn to the mindset of the youth of Assam," Gogoi said during the meeting.
Gogoi had last month announced plans to start a TV channel by his government that will present the "official" side of stories.
Representatives of SRSG Broadcast Private Ltd made a presentation on issues related to opening a channel at the meeting.
