TV journalist attacked

Chaurasia was attacked with a brick by a 35-year-old man in Ranhola area of West Delhi last night when he was shooting for a debate programme related to coming assembly elections in the area, police said today.

The attacker, identified as Surender Singh, a shopkeeper, has been arrested after people present at the set of the show apprehended him. The incident took place at around 8.30 pm at Holy Convent School in Gupta Enclave of Vikas Nagar area.

"As per the format of the show, leaders of Congress, BJP and AAP were supposed to debate on the local issues of the area during the one-hour show which is telecast live.
 

"However, the venue was overcrowded and a number of people climbed on the stage. Amid chaos, Surender Singh hit Chaurasia with a brick. He was instantly overpowered by those present around," said a senior police official.

The show was called off after the incident in which Chaurasia sustained minor injury. A case under the IPC has been registered at Ranhola police station against Singh.
