Leading news channels' editors today condemned the terror attack on French satirical weekly 'Charlie Hebdo' and said that any attempt to silence media by brute force of the gun is to the detriment of a free society.
Broadcast Editors Association (BEA), a body comprised of leading news channels' editors, called upon media across the country to raise their voice against growing intolerance and terror.
"We have seen that in the recent past a sustained attempt is being made by fanatic armed groups to silence the voice of sanity. The BEA is of firm opinion that any attempt to silence media by brute force of gun is to the detriment of a free society," a statement released by BEA President Shazi Zaman and General Secretary N K Singh said.
BEA also expressed sympathy and solidarity with the family of the journalists killed in the terror attack.
