Action-adventure television series 'Manimal' is headed for a big screen adaptation with comedians Will Ferrell and Adam McKay co-producing.

'Key & Peele' executive producers Jay Martel and Ian Roberts are tapped to write the script for the remake, reported Aceshowbiz.

The big-screen take on vintage TV series 'Manimal' was first announced in 2012.

The original series starred Simon MacCorkindale and Melody Anderson.

It centered on Dr Jonathan Chase who is able to turn himself into any animal he chooses and he uses this ability to help the police solve crimes. It ended its run after only eight episodes, but developed a cult following later.

"Like 'The Catcher in the Rye' or 'The Sound and the Fury', 'Manimal' has always been one of those elusive projects every producer dreams of taking to the silver screen.

I know the movie will be funny and entertaining but will it be the first film to win a Pulitzer? We'll just have to see," McKay said.
