Miley Cyrus has defended her raunchy stage antics, insisting her shows can be educational for young girls.

The 'Wrecking Ball' hitmaker, who was criticised for her x-rated performances including infamous twerk against Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards, said her young fans should be aware of sex, reported Daily Mirror.

"What's crazy to me, is that sexuality is still too offensive. Kids need to know about sexuality. Girls need to be comfortable in that," she said.

The former Disney star said she remains a humble Southern girl despite becoming one of the best known faces in pop.

"When people think of twerking, the first thing they think of is me. And I'm just this little girl from Nashville who put up a funny video of me in a onesie dancing. Then people take it crazy.
