A man, who has lodged a police complaint about the murder of his wife and their four-year-old adopted son, himself was arrested in connection with the killing, along with another person, the police said.
The complainant Shashi Kumar, manager of a nationalised bank in Kolkata, has turned out to be the conspirator of the twin murder, Senior Superintendent of Police, Anoop T Mathew said.
Kumar's wife Manju (41) and their four-year-old son Dweej were murdered in their residence at Mango under Ulidih police station here on November 15.
The police also arrested Mukesh Kumar Sharma for the twin murders besides another killing - that of Mohan Sharma, who was also an accused in the case.
Mukesh had sought Kumar's help to get bank loan for his sister's marriage but the manager told him it was not possible but made an offer to kill his wife and son in lieu of money, which he accepted.
Mathew told reporters that the bank manager allegedly asked carpenters Mukesh and Mohan to kill the two for Rs five lakh. The couple did not have any issue and they used to fight over this.
Kumar was allegedly planning to marry a cousin with whom he had an affair, he said adding the bank manager had no attachment with the adopted child but Manju was fond of Dweej.
Mathew said the two carpenters entered Manju's house on the pretext of some repair work and killed the woman and the child by slitting their throats.
The duo then stolen jewellery from the house and sold it in Kolkata for Rs 35,000. However, differences between Mukhesh and Mohan cropped up over share of Rs 35,000, which led Mukesh to kill Mohan two days ago at Hata, around 12 km from here, Mathew said.
The police recovered the knife used in killing the woman and son and the blood-stained clothes of the accused.
Mathew said the post-mortem report did not confirm rape of Manju as it was being presumed initially.
