Director David Lynch has been roped in to helm all episodes of the upcoming season of Showtime's "Twin Peaks" reboot.

The drama series, created by Mark Frost and Lynch, will be shot as one long movie, which will be edited down into individual episodes, reported People magazine.

"What happened was it became clear that it was going to take more than nine episodes, which was the originally-planned-for, originally-budgeted-for length of the series. So we had to sort of work out the details," CW president Mark Pedowitz said.

Cast of the 1990s show had publicly defended show creator Lynch when news broke that he had walked away from the project in April.

Now that Lynch is back on board, Pedowitz said fans "should be optimistic that the people that you want will be there and then there will be some surprises, in addition."

"Twin Peaks", which ran for two seasons from 1990-1991, is considered one of the most influential shows of its time.

It was followed by the 1992 feature film "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me".

For Lynch, the reboot marks his first major project since 2006's dark thriller, "Inland Empire".
