Two persons were arrested today for allegedly assaulting a constable when the Ola cab they were riding was stopped at EM Bypass in the Phoolbagan Police Station limits, police said.
The incident occured at around 7 AM when a constable of Haridebpur Police Station, Krishna Deb, who is a resident of the locality tried to stop a "recklessly" moving Ola cab when he was crossing EM Bypass.
At this point the two - Deborshi Bhattacharyya, son of a former councillor of Dum Dum and Chandrakant Singh stepped out of the cab and allegedly assaulted Das, who was off duty and returning from a nearby bazar.
A senior officer of the local police Station alleged that the duo were drunk and repeatedly abused Das before assaulting him.
"When our officers reached the spot after getting a call from Das we tried to sort out the matter but instead the two started hurling abuses at us before pushing and shoving. It was then when the two were arrested from the spot but they continued hurling abuses at our officers even after they were brought at the police station," the officer said.
The duo were released after being granted bail by a local court.
