Two arrested for circulating counterfeit currency notes

Two persons were arrested for allegedly circulating counterfeit currency notes in Odisha's Kalahandi district Friday, police said.

The arrest was made following a complaint by a trader, who had sold some sheep and goat to the accused on September 12 and had received a payment of Rs 40,000 in denominations of Rs 500, they said.

When he paid at a shop from the notes he had received, it was found that they were counterfeit and he informed the police about it.

Police raided the residences of the accused in Dharamgarh area and seized 34 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination and arrested the duo, police said.

 

The accused were identified and investigation is on to ascertain the source from where they procured the fake notes, the police added.
