Two arrested for duping candidates with fake promises of jobs at ONGC

Two men, including a former merchant navy officer, were arrested for allegedly duping candidates on the pretext of providing them jobs at the ONGC, police said today.

A case was registered on June 6 based on a complaint received from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation claiming that people were being duped in its name, they said.

The statement of a victim, Sandeep, resident of Bhiwani, Haryana, was also taken. He had been cheated of Rs 2.69 lakh by Naveen Kumar (35), officials said.

Subsequently, Kumar and his accomplice Himanshu (27) were arrested on July 11.

Upon questioning, Kumar revealed that he was a second officer in the merchant navy and had served in Ethopia before leaving the job in 2010, police said.

 

He had started cheating people along with his uncle Vinay Kumar in 2012, officials said.

A laptop, printers and documents used by the accused have been recovered, they added.
