Two persons have been arrested for allegedly cheating people over a popular online classifieds advertisement portal on the pretext of selling them puppies of several breeds, police said today.

Mohit Kumar (23) and Arvind Kumar (22), both residents of east Delhi's Karawal Nagar area, were yesterday by a special team after police received three similar complaints in a week's time, said DCP (East) B S Gurjar.

According to the police, the duo used to advertise about sale of dogs of several breeds over the portal and when approached by someone, they used to persuade them into paying a hefty sum as advance, and later disappear.

Police received three similar complaints within a week's time at one particular police station in east district, after which a special team was formed, the senior official said.

While Mohit was arrested yesterday from his residence, his accomplice, Arvind was arrested from Noida.

During interrogation, Mohit said he was into the business of pets and had good knowledge about dogs. He later roped in Arvind, who was desperate about earning quick bucks, and started duping people, said police, adding they have been book on the charges of cheating.
