Two arrested for kidnap, murder of retired lecturer

Police today arrested two men for allegedly killing a retired college lecturer in Jamunadeipur area of the town.

Sudhir Mohanta (65), a resident of the area was reported missing since September 25, Baripada Sub-Divisional Police Officer Abhimanyu Nayak said.

During interrogation, S K Raju (30), a garage owner of Raghunathpur area, admitted that Mohanta was an acquaintance, and he along with accomplice Ajay Patra (32) had kidnapped and killed the lecturer, the police official said.

The motive of the crime was loot, Nayak said, adding, Raju and Patra have been arrested.

The body of Mohanta was buried close to his residence, which police recovered, he added.
