With the arrest of two youths from Kalwa town in the district, police today claimed to have solved a number of kidnapping and extortion cases.

The accused duo-- Harinder Yadav (19) and Narender Jaiswal (20)-- was arrested last evening from Waghoba Nagar locality in Kalwa, ACP Nagesh Lohar said.

During their interrogation, the accused said Jaiswal used to paste posters of missing persons at the railway stations.

"From there, Jaiswal got the idea of calling the parents of these missing children and extorting money from them," Lohar said.

According to police, last week, a 15-year-old boy had gone missing from Vasant Vihar. The accused called the mother of the boy and demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000 telling her that her son was in their custody, he said.

In a similar case, they tried to extort money from the parents of a 13-year-old boy.

"At least six cases have come to light so far," the officer said.

The duo has been booked under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and 387 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the matter is being probed.
