The police said Sushil Mondal and his office staff Chanchal Das were arrested for photocopying books of well-known publishers and selling them.

Mondal is the brother of the security guard of a judge of Burdwan court, the police said.

Pirated books with face value of Rs 7 lakh, one colour and two black-and-white photocopy machines were seized from their unit near Vivekananda College More in the town, sources said.

The arrests were made on the basis of a complaint by Amitava Sen, the president of Paschimbanga Prakashana Sabha, to the superintendent of police.

The matter came to the fore when booksellers of Burdwan town declined to keep the original books from the publishers and instead sold the pirated books at a very cheap price, the police said.
