Two arrested for misappropriation of PDS rice

The vigilance department today said it has arrested two persons on charges of misappropriation of PDS rice in Odisha's Malkangiri district.

Khirabdiraj Mohapatra, an inspector of supplies and Rabi Narayan Puhan, a panchayat extention officer (PEO) of Mudulipada gram panchayat were arrested by the officers of Koraput vigilance division yesterday.

They were involved in alleged misappropriation of 100 quintal of PDS rice worth over Rs 3 lakh during the month of July, this year.

The rice was meant to be distributed among the beneficiaries under 'Antodaya Anna Yojana'.

Today, the duo were produced before a vigilance court, which remanded them to judicial custody till December 8.
