Inder Pal and his cousin Inder were arrested on Wednesday after they were found possessing illegal arms during routine check of vehicles, police said.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they planned and killed one Lalit who belongs to a rival gang in their area last week-end.

The rivalry started when Inderpal slapped Rajiv and Lalit over some trivial issue which had annoyed them and they bore a grudge.

"They decided to eliminate Inderpal and hatched a plan. On January 7 they made an attempt on Inderpal's life but he escaped," Anil Kumar Ojha, Additional Commissioner of Police, South-West District, said.

After systematic efforts, accused persons including Lalit, Rajiv, Jaipal, Naveen and two juvenile were nabbed and were lodged in jail.

After being released from jail, Lalit and his associates regrouped and started openly threatening and challenging Inderpal and his gang.

"Both the gangs were on the lookout for an opportune moment to eliminate one another. On the intervening night of April 22 and 23, Inderpal, Inder and their associated Amit hatched a plan and waylaid Lalit and fired indiscriminately at him," he said.

After murdering Lalit, they dumped his body in a drain near Haritima Tourist Complex in village KangenHeri in Delhi. PTI ETB
