Two arrested for pilfering oil from pipeline

The CID has arrested two persons in connection with their allegedly pilfering crude oil from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) pipeline in Howrah district, a senior official said today.

Rashid Ahmed alias Pappu and Mohammed Noor Alam were arrested from Ankurhati for pilfering the IOC pipeline in the area, CID DIG (Operations) Dilip Kumar Adak said here.

Two tankers, several barrels and around 6,000 litres of crude and several equipment used to suck out oil from the pipelines were recovered from accused, he said.

"We had information from our sources as well as from IOC officials that pilferage was happening for a long time in the area. Acting on this information, a team of CID officials raided Ankurhati and nabbed the two," Adak said, adding, the duo was part of an international racket of oil theft.
 

Ahmed, a resident of Kareya police station area and Alam hailing from Ekbalpore area of the city, have been remanded for 13 days in CID custody, he said.
