Two persons, including a woman, were arrested today for allegedly selling a medicine which they claimed could guarantee the birth of a male child.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of health department and police officials nabbed one Luxmi Devi from Bihata village while she was offering medicine to a decoy couple sent to her, a health department official said.

The team then arrested one Darshan, an acquaintance of Luxmi Devi, from Shahzadpur for selling medicine that claimed to guarantee birth of male child, the official said.

The accused had been charging huge amount of money from the villagers for these medicines.

On the complaint of the health department, a case has been registered against Luxmi Devi and Darshan under relevant sections of the IPC and PNDT Act, the official said.
