Delhi police today arrested two youths and claimed to have busted an interstate gang which procured semi-automatic firearms from Munger district in Bihar and sold them to criminal elements in Delhi and NCR region.
The Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested Punit alias Punjabi (24) and Hanif (25) on Wednesday after it received a tip off that a consignment of illegal weapons will be supplied near Murga Mandi in Ghazipur.
The police also recovered 10 pistols and 10 spare magazines from their possession.
During investigation, it was found that a man named Chacha Bihari, who is from of Munger, was a manufacturer and the main supplier of the illegal arms and ammunition to the gang, police said.
"He manufactures and gets delivered illegal firearms to his contacts in Delhi and NCR. They supply weapons to almost every part of the country.
"It was also revealed that the duo used to supply at least one such consignment every fortnight in Delhi, Khurja and Bulandshahar. All the sophisticated pistols recovered bear the mark 'ARMY SUPPLY ONLY', 'MADE IN USA'," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
According to police, Hanif and Punit worked for a man named Mulla Ji and they used to regularly go to Munger by train for arms.
After reaching there, Mulla Ji used to give a call to Chacha Bihari who would then send one person to handover illegal weapons to him after taking money.
Mulla would then handover the illegal weapons to Punit and Hanif and ask them to return to Delhi.
After returning to Delhi, Punit and Hanif used to handover the consignment to contacts decided by Mulla.
"After every 15-20 days, They used to visit Munger and bring five pistols each by train. They had brought a total of about 120-130 pistols for Mulla. Brothers of Mulla were also indulged in supply of illegal weapons," said Yadav.
A case has been registered and efforts are being made to nab the other members of the gang.
