Two arrested for smuggling drugs in Punjab

Continuing with their crackdown on drug smugglers, the Punjab Police, in a joint operation with the Uttar Pradesh Police, today busted an inter-state gang of drug peddlers.

The gang was allegedly involved in the smuggling of drugs used to create concoctions by drug addicts in Punjab and was traced during investigations into some recent drug-related deaths, Senior Superintendent of Police SBS Nagar Satinder Singh said in a release here.

The joint operation, conducted bythe SBS Nagar police and Saharanpur police, led to the arrest of two Saharanpur residents identified as Mohd Bali and Sohail Qureshi.

The SSP said the police teams of the two states conducted the operation following information received from another accused arrested earlier under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

 

An FIR has been registered at Kotwali City Saharanpur by SBS NAGAR police.

Based on the interrogation of Mohd Bali and Sohail Qureshi, the SBS Nagar police, along with the Saharanpur police, later raided the pharmacy of Abdul Maruf, owner of Welcome Pharma, Khan Market Kishanpura, Saharanpur, police said.

The records have been seized and authorities have recommended cancellation of the license of store owner, they said.
