Two youths have been arrested after they allegedly attempted to run over a constable who had tried to stop them near India Gate, police said today.

Palinder Singh Jolly (22) and Anmol Jeet Singh Bindra (22) were travelling in an open jeep from Tilak Marg towards India Gate last night.

When Constable Amar Singh signalled them to stop, instead of applying break, they accelerated and tried to run over the cop, according to police.

"The constable acted in time and jumped aside to save his life. Immediately, a wireless message was flashed and the duo was nabbed from Lajpat Nagar area. They did not have the car registration papers and Palinder who was driving did not have a license," he said.

A case under sections of attempt to murder and not obeying lawful instructions of a government official was registered at Tilak Marg Police Station against the duo, police said.
