Two persons were arrested today in connection with the case of an MCD official being trashed by alleged AAP workers near the Deputy Commissioner's office of South zone in Green Park, in which former Delhi Law minister Somnath Bharti's name had also surfaced.

The duo, identified as Mobin Ali (37) and Liyakat (50) have been arrested in this connection, said B S Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), adding, that efforts are on to nab their other associates involved in the assault.

According to the police, the victim, Ashok Kumar, who is an executive engineer with the south municipal corporation was allegedly beaten up yesterday by some people protesting against the demolition of a house in South Delhi's Hauz Khas area.

The incident took place minutes before Bharti along with some of his supporters reached the spot to protest against the MCD and its demolition drive.

Bharti, however, had claimed that those involved with the incident were not AAP workers and he had nothing to do with them.

In his complaint about the incident, the executive engineer claimed that he was beaten up by four people who were allegedly wearing AAP caps and were protesting outside the office before Bharti arrived.

An FIR in this regard was registered at Safdarjung Enclave police station under relevant provisions of the IPC.
