Two persons were arrested today for their alleged involvement in the death of a college student who was a TMCP supporter, police said.

"We have arrested two persons in regard to the death of a college student. We are investigating the case," IG (law and order) Anuj Sharma told PTI.

Paresh Mandal (18), a first year student of Kalinagar College and a Trinamool Congress student leader, was allegedly beaten up by SFI (CPI-M's students' wing) supporters over a scuffle regarding filing of nomination papers for college elections yesterday, leading to his death, in the Sandeshkhali area of North 24 Parganas district.

Meanwhile, TMC leaders today conducted a rally with Mandal's body from the Peace Haven mortuary to the Gandhi statue in the Esplanade area.

"Law should take its own course, investigation is on. I am not saying that SFI is not involved, but a complete investigation will bring out the truth," Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee said.
