Two arrested with 85 turtles

A man and a woman were arrested from the railway station here for allegedly trying to smuggle turtles to Kolkata, police said today.

Rukhsana and Fahim were arrested yesterday after GRP personnel noticed movement inside their bags on the platform, GRP Circle Officer Surendra Tiwari said.

A total of 85 alive turtles were recovered from the bag, he added.

They accused were on way to Kolkata from Balamau in the state to sell the turtles there, he said, adding that the two have confessed that they had been doing this for long.

The turtles have been handed over to the forest department, Tiwari said.
