Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested after an encounter, police said.
"Bangladeshi gangs were active in different parts of state capital, and to bust the gang a number of teams were formed by the police. The Bangladeshi gang which was busted today, had its gang members staying along the rail tracks adjacent to the posh colonies, and committed crimes," a UP Police spokesperson today said in a statement.
On the day of committing the crime, they never used any mobile phone, the official added.
"They generally used to come from Bangladesh via Malda and from there board trains for Kanpur," the spokesperson said
Today when a police team tried to stop 5-6 persons near a railway crossing in Jugauli (Gomtinagar), they started firing, prompting the policeman to retaliate, he said.
"Gang members Shafiqul and Kamal were injured in police firing, and have been hospitalised. Efforts are being made to nab other members of the gang," the police spokesperson said.
Arms, ammunition and Bangladeshi currency was also recovered from them, he added.
