Two bike-borne men killed after being hit by lorry

Two men on a motorcycle allegedly in a drunken state were killed here after being hit by a lorry, whose driver was also in an "inebriated" condition, in the early hours of today, police said.

The incident occurred in Langer House police station limits at around 12.10 am when the duo tried to avoid an drunken drive checking, they said.

According to a police official, Srinivas (19) and Rajesh (24) were going towards Gudimalkapur from Budvel when they saw barricades placed on a road as part of the drive against drunken driving.

The duo suddenly took a u-turn when they were hit by the lorry and were killed on the spot, he said.
 

"The duo was allegedly in a drunken state when the incident occurred and had tried to avoid the traffic cops. The lorry driver, in the meanwhile, who was later found to be in inebriated condition had hit a car and a police crane before hitting the two men," the police officer said.

The lorry driver has been taken into custody. A case was registered and probe is on, police said.
