Bodies of two labourers were recovered today from Karen river in Darbhanga district, two days after an under-construction bridge had collapsed in which four labourers were feared killed, an official said.

The bodies, identified that of Deepak Kumar Mahot (30) and Raghuvir Sahni (37), were seen floating in the river water half a kilometer away for the bridge construction site by some villagers who informed the police, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Kari Prasad Mahto said.

The two bodies were fished out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, he said.

Efforts were on to find out the bodies of the other two labourers, Mahto said.

The collapse of the under-construction structure in which the labourers were feared killed had sparked off a protest yesterday with locals torching a JCB machine and other equipment at the construction site against the "tardy pace" of rescue work.
