Two boys drown in stone quarry

Two boys from powerloom town of

Bhiwandi here drowned in a stone quarry, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when the duo alongwith other friends entered the water-filled quarry for a swim at Kalwar village, they said.

Both the boys drowned after failing to gauge the depth of the water, PSI Raju Patil of Bhiwandi taluka police station told PTI.

Their bodies were fished out later and were sent for postmortem to the IGM Government hospital.

They were identified as Vivek Raju Avadutat (14) and Vamsi Ramesh Wanam (11). Both were from Balaji Nagar locality.

A case of accidental death has been registered with the local police.
 

Police said that schools in the locality were observing holidays on account of Ganesh Chaturthi following which the boys decided to go for a fun outing.
