Two brothers lost their lives while two others were injured when a brand new Audi car, they were travelling in, had a horrific crash after the driver lost control of the vehicle near Britania Chowk in North West Delhi, police said today.
The accident happened last night, in which Nikhil Bansal (36) and Vineet Bansal (32), residents of C C colony in Model Town area, died while Nitin (33), a resident of Gurgaon and Pradeep, a resident of Surajmal Vihar were injured, they said.
The car belonged to Nikhil and Vineet, and as it was bought recently, it was not having a permanent registration number and carried a temporary one, a senior police official said.
Nitin was on the wheels when the incident took place while Nikhil was beside him on the front seat. Vineet and Pradeep were on the back seats.
"All four are businessmen. Nitin was rushed to Bhagwan Mahavaeer Hospital while Pradeep was taken to Agrasen hospital where both of them are recuperating," the official said.
What adds to the tragedy is that three sisters of a same family were married to Nikhil, Nitin and Pradeep, police added.
According to police, the accident took place around 12:30 AM when the four were coming from Azadpur and were on their way to Dhaula Kuan.
"When they reached near Britania Chowk, Nitin lost control of the car which first rammed into the divider, then smashed into a roadside signage of a petrol pump before finally hitting an electric pole," the official said.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the car was travelling at speeds in access to 100 km/hour when the accident took place.
The fact that the car which had high-end safety features like front and side airbag for those in the front seat as well as those in the rear seats, crash sensors among others, could not save its occupants from the impact means that the car was moving very fast when the accident took place, the official said.
The mangled remains of the more than Rs 40 lakh car was moved to Keshav Puram Police Station where police has also registered a case under section 279 (rash and negligent driving) and an investigation has been taken up.
It was being said that the occupants of the car were returning from a party.
However, whether they were drunk or not that has to be verified by the police which would become clear only after the post mortem of deceased and medico-legal case examination of the injured, police said.
