Two persons were killed and four others were injured in an attack following a minor quarrel in Savarkundla town of Amreli district around midnight today, police said.

The deceased were identified as Salim Qureshi (38) and his brother Hussain Qureshi (34). Another brother, Yusuf Qureshi (36), was critically injured along with three others.

The incident took place near Khadi office in Savarkundla at around 12.30 after the midnight. The complaint was filed at 6 in the morning by Yusuf's wife Jamila, who said that a group of more than eight persons, carrying swords and knives, attacked her husband and brothers-in-law at their house.

"The quarrel had begun last evening when Hussain was overseeing Muharram preparations. Akram Asam, resident of the same area, threw water on him, which led to a spat," said inspector N N Jadav of the local police station.

"Later at night Akram and his friends attacked Hussain and his brothers," he said, adding that no arrests had been made yet.
