The Centre has sanctioned two cancer treatment facilities at a total cost of Rs 165 crore for Punjab, Union Minister Santosh Chowdhary said here today.
The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare said the Centre has sanctioned a State Cancer Institute (SCI) in Amritsar at a cost of Rs 120 crore, and a Tertiary Cancer Centre (TCC) in Hoshiarpur at a cost of Rs 45 crore.
She said these institutes will go a long way in ameliorating hardships of patients.

Earlier patients had to travel long distances for getting treatment of cancer, now affordable health services will be provided to them at their doorsteps, she stated.
She said that Rs 5 crore Auxiliary Midewife Nursing (AMN) School will also be set up in Phagwara. The minister later attended functions in Pandwa and Nagal Khera villages here.
